Strengthening the Community Health System
Cameroun · Banque Mondiale
This program, funded by the World Bank as part of the Health System Strengthening Project (PRSS), aimed to improve access to quality health care in three of the most disadvantaged regions of Cameroon. ICE-FRANCE provided technical assistance for the capacity strengthening and human resource development component in health.
The intervention area covers a population of 4.2 million inhabitants, with maternal and child mortality rates among the highest in the country. The project developed an integrated approach combining the strengthening of health facilities (health districts, integrated health centers, health posts) and active involvement of communities through health committees and community relays.
ICE-FRANCE provided specific expertise in: training health personnel in good clinical practices and management of obstetric emergencies; developing protocols and formative supervision tools; implementing a health information system adapted to the rural context and low connectivity; strengthening the management capacity of health facility management committees.
Particular attention was paid to integrating gender in health interventions, with specific actions to improve women's access to care and strengthen their role in health committees.
