Local Economic Development and Social Inclusion Program
Bénin · Agence Française de Développement
This ongoing program, funded by AFD as part of its initiative "Creating Jobs in Africa", supports inclusive economic development in six municipalities in the departments of Atacora, Donga, and Borgou. These areas face significant challenges in terms of youth employment, migration, and economic inclusion of women.
The program's approach is based on three complementary pillars. The first pillar concerns the development of local agri-food sectors: strengthening producers' organizations, improving processing and preservation techniques, developing marketing channels. ICE-FRANCE supports particularly the cashew, shea, and vegetable sectors.
The second pillar focuses on the development of the social and solidarity economy: identification and support of social enterprises, establishment of a seed fund, development of social entrepreneurship and inclusive finance.
The third pillar addresses the employability and professional integration of youth and women: vocational training in high-demand professions, dual apprenticeship, linking with businesses, support for the creation of activities.
The program works in close coordination with municipal authorities, local economic operators, and civil society organizations to anchor interventions in the local dynamics and ensure their sustainability.
